What
is a Virtual Domain or a Remotely Hosted Domain?
A Virtual
Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com)
without having to install expensive server hardware and software
at your location. Your domain is remotely hosted with us. You
utilize our server's storage space, however you are still professionally
represented via your own personal Internet web address domain
name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal e-mail address
domain name (you@your-name.com).
You should
check InterNIC's "WHOIS"
service to make sure that your desired domain name is available.
Who
is the InterNIC?
We register
your domain for free. Register an Internet domain name
quickly and easily. InterNIC, currently the only top-level domain
registrar in the U.S., charges a standard 70.00 investment for
the first two years per registered name (35.00 per year).
It is important
to understand that all Internet Providers (ISP's) are required
to go through InterNIC. It is like the corporation commission
in your state or local. You can file directly with the state and
save hundreds of dollars over having a Paralegal or Lawyer do
the process. InterNIC controls all .COM, .NET and
.ORG domain names globally. These newly registered domain
names can be used for either email or a web site. Many companies
offer domain registration, acting as the technical representative,
and charging up to 99.00 for the privilege. Our registration service
is FREE from any registration fees. There are no strings
attached, you own and control your domain name. So don't wait
to defend your good name until it's too late.
InterNIC
will send you an invoice about 30 days from this registration,
so it is best to pay it right away to make sure your name
is secured.
Can
I access my domain address with or without the "www"?
Yes, you
will be able to access the domain address with or without the
"www" in front of the domain name. Example: [www.your-name.com]
or [your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer. This means
you can advertise your web address as simply [your-name.com].
If people add the "www" out of habit that's perfectly all right.
Do
you offer dial-up Internet access?
No, you
will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web
site and retrieve email addressed to your site.
Do
you handle the domain registration process?
Yes. We
will contact the InterNIC
once your account is activated to request either a new domain
name registration or a domain name modification (trasferring
an existing domain to our servers). Please DO NOT
submit a registration or modification template to the InterNIC
as this will only delay the process.
Can
I transfer an existing domain name to your servers?
Yes, just
be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT
a new domain. You should keep the service with your current provider
while waiting for InterNIC to complete the transfer process. We
will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror
the site on our server. All email and web pages will still be
accessed from your current site. When InterNIC announces the completion
of the transfer there is a 72 hour propagation period where visitors
could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours you should
contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain
from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this
same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to
access your domain site until they update their DNS. When we file
a modification one of the current listed contacts must OK the
move. InterNIC will send a email that you must OK to have the
redirection of your domain completed. if the contact email on
your domain has changed from the time you originally registered
it, you will need to fax a authorization to complete the process
using a tracking number we will provide upon request.
Can
you host foreign domain names?
Yes we
can house any foreign extensions, we do not do the registration
of these but can provide the name servers so you can register
them yourselves.
How
long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once the
InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or
transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72-hours before
it is active. All Internet providers must update their records
(DNS tables) to reflect the new site's location.
How
do I transfer files to my web site?
Files
must be transferred to the web server via File Transfer Protocol
(FTP) or Telnet. If you need FTP, telnet, mail, or other Internet
software, visit FreePrograms.com.
FreePrograms.com is a source for the latest Internet applications
with ratings and reviews to help you decide which application
is best suited for your needs. An FTP
tutorial
is also available for beginner users who may not be familiar with
FTP.
Will
I have unlimited access to update my pages?
You have
unlimited access via FTP and Telnet 24-hours a day. As such, you
can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and
upload files to your web site at your leisure.
Can
I use my account for commercial purposes?
Yes, you
can use your account for commercial purposes. The World Wide Web
has become the most efficient and cost-effective means of making
information available to the users of the Internet community and
we encourage our customers to utilize such an enormous medium.
Do
you provide tech support?
Yes. We
encourage our customers in need of assistance to send e-mail to
Support@VenturaCountyHosting.com
with questions or concerns about their web site. However, we provide
technical support only, we cannot provide help with HTML syntax
or CGI programming problems. Tech support is done 7 days a week
and is staffed over 20 hours per day.
How
long does it take to set up a new account?
New accounts
are generally set up within 24 hours from the time we receive
your order. Once an account is set up an activation notice will
be sent to you via email including your user-ID, password, and
FTP hostname. You can begin uploading files to your new web site
immediately. Domain account users will be given a temporary URL
to access their site via the web prior to the completion of either
domain registration or domain modification.
Can
I subdivide my space and resell it?
Yes, we
do allow you to create sub directories which you can use to offer
friends or clients space as long as its within our policy guidelines.
You can also request additional FTP accounts with limited access
to a specific directory for a small additional setup charge
Can
I have more domains pointing to the same main page as my main domain?
Yes, for
a one time setup fee and a small month fee for each additional
domain we can mirror your main web pages and mail system. This
is a great way to expand the marketing of your present business.
How
much is extra traffic in the unlikely event I need it?
You are
given a generous amount of traffic, in the unlikely event you
need more, its only 10.00 for each additional 100 megs used.
Are
third level domains available (anyname.mydomain.com)?
Yes, We
can give you a third level domain name such as yourname.VenturaCountyHosting.com
or if you have a existing domain with us anyname.yourdomain.com.
The packages are the same as the one posted for normal domains,
the advantage to these is InterNIC registration is not needed.
This means no interring registration fees
